Northwest Family YMCA

HERE FOR GOOD

Become a Friend of the Y!

Here in Greater Baldwinsville, families and seniors need a place to play in a healthy environment. Cancer survivors and people diagnosed with pre-diabetes need a place where they can overcome their challenges at no cost. All of our children, not just varsity athletes, need a place where they can develop the strength and confidence they’ll need to thrive as adults.

For more than a decade, local volunteers have been raising money to build a new Y to meet those community needs. (See the NWFY Fact Sheet.) Working with the YMCA of Greater Syracuse, we developed plans to build a 98,000 square foot facility on the corner of Drakes Landing Road and state Route 31 in the Town of Lysander.

This community-led effort suffered a setback June 20, 2011, when the Town of Lysander Planning Board rejected the plans. (Read the June  Northwest Family YMCA Update for details.) Our community's needs and residents' desire for a Y continue to grow, however.

We will build the Northwest Family YMCA. We’ll do it at a price our community donors can afford, at the best site available, as soon as possible.

We are reaching out to the northwestern Onondaga County community in new ways. We want to hear your views. You can show your support now by liking our Facebook page and joining the discussion, by making a pledge or by making a donation

We need friends to support our cause. If you're ready to speak up for a stronger community, please become a Friend of the Y.

In the meantime, we are exploring alternate sites throughout the Baldwinsville area. No site will make everyone happy, but we promise to be guided by the needs and values of our community. When we find the best location, we hope we can count on your support.

Thank you to the many groups that are pledging their support for building a Y in Northwestern Onondaga County, including the Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce. Votes of strong support from the elected leaders of the Town of Van Buren, the Village of Baldwinsville, and the Radisson Community Association show that we can all come together for the common good.
